A Florida woman has had a gold wedding ring returned to her 50 years after she lost it. Beatrice Di Tondo, of western Lake Worth in Florida, lost her gold ring while washing diapers in the northern state of Massachusetts 50 years ago, according to the Palm Beach Post. Last month a man from the 80-year-old’s previous home town rang her up to say that the item of gold jewelry had cropped up in his garden. “I’ve always enjoyed puzzles, and this was a good one,” the ring’s finder Joe Gauvain told the Florida-based newspaper. Mr Gauvain, of Lynn, Massachusetts, was handed the ring by his wife after she picked it up while mowing the lawn. The couple lives at Mrs Di Tondo’s former house in the town.
The incident compares to a similar event in Chepstow, England, where a woman who had lost her gold ring while gardening in 1969 had it returned in July of this year.
Beatrice Di Tondo and her husband Renato have lived at a mobile home park in the Florida for the last 20 years. They plan to celebrate the return of the gold ring when daughter Ann comes to visit them later this month. The ring will be handed to the daughter for safe keeping as a precious family item.
